I'm pretty much posting this same review for all of this series I've read so far. They have several characteristics in common, and it holds true for each of them. It's obvious the author Dan Eitreim knows the subjects. Each of the books has probably 70 to 80% of what you could expect to learn from just reading any book on an aspect of photography. Taken as a whole the series represents a worthwhile resource to advance your photography knowledge or technique.He makes the ebooks available at very significant discount on a rotating basis. Subscribing to his email newsletter brings you photography tips, and a heads up when a discounted book becomes available. I find this method has good points and bad points.
Good points: Very affordable, can acquire just the subjects of interest, not an overwhelming amount of information at one time. Easy to read.
Bad points: Every book has 30 to 35% taken up with an off subject 15% lead in, and 20% lead out. After 20 books the novelty of this has worn off.
The series of 20+ books (minus the boiler plate and perhaps edited a little) would make good chapters in a single very respectable textbook on photography. Certainly worth your time to read. If in a hurry to learn about a specific subject and can't wait for the rotation, it's likely worth your money too.

If you are just starting out in photography or if you are a good photographer this is interesting reading. The writer explains the composition color, in a simple term and how to use. To improve your shots there is a example of subject placement and use of contrasting. In the book the writer teaches you to use colors in a simple and easy to follow. This book is a must have for anyone interested in learning how to take better color photos. I recommend this book for anyone interested in learning how colors work.
Dan's books are terrific. I'm changing from using film to digital cameras and I need all the help I can get which is just what I'm getting. Dan explains what tools I need (like color wheels) and how to use them. He explains changing the color in photos digitally. His books are full of information. And I'm just crazy about them. I recommended them to my son who I originally taught how to take pictures. He is a professional photographer now and even he gets new ideas from these books.
Gives information on leading lines and how to use them with color, gives great information on color and how to use it to improve your photography.
I once heard an artist, defined as a person in this particular case who actually earns a living through "creating", describe her process as similar to making dough "I work on it until it squeaks, and then I know it's done." It's not like she follows a bunch of rules, she "sees" and "knows". I, on the other hand, pretty much know when I finally see, but am often lost on the path to getting there. This book will be enormously helpful because it lays down helpful guidelines on how to achieve the results I am always stumbling to make. Perhaps artists are born and not made, but I can still hope that a large portion is from perspiration rather than inspiration - - - and this guide provides the exercise in as painless, entertaining, and useful format as possible. Certainly, my images will improve if never attain fine art status.
The color wheel is something that I want to look into for photography and my website work as well.
I have a desire to learn photography and know that just knowing the way to maintain settings on the camera is not all there is to know.
I am giving it four stars because at this point it is just concepts which I need to try out. If this works for me, I would like to provide an update and rerate.

I decided to read today and was able to do so while doing my morning walking. I set my for PC to read aloud mode (turned on free microsoft narrator, then in for PC pressed CTRL-SHIFT-C to set to continuous reading mode, then pressed CTRL-R to begin reading)
Took about 20 - 25 minutes to get through the book.
Since I don't always make it through long books, this was about the right size for me.
Just downloaded another of Dan's books. Again he has a winner. He starts off with a review of composition rules (thanks, I need all the reminders I can get). Then he gets into the color aspect, showing examples of a normal color shot then a boosted color shot. May just have to go into my photo archives, pick out a few shots and really boost the color on some to get a more artistic look - maybe even convert some to black and white or antique them in sepia.
I also like the section on portraits where he recommends everyone in the photo wear the same or at least similar color to make the photo less distracting. I will have to remember this if, as I said in some other reviews, I actually do take the portraits for my church directory next year.
Towards the end Dan also has a section of using filters to add color or to bring out more color. I received a set of filters for Christmas and now I know I just have to experiment with them this summer to see what kind of results I get. Now I know I have to find a good high spot in town to try for sunsets.

Starts out by reviewing tips from another book to refresh your memory on what you will need to know to make the photos POP.
Like the examples of thirds in lines for photos shown, make you appreciate how you position the subject to the center of the photo.
Colors and explanations of what they mean and are associated with in photos. Filters section to me, was first brought out in a different book by the author.
Lots of links to various sites on the net for further information. Bonus material available. Like work exercises at the end so you can experiment with what and how the author has explained.
Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
